Valor Mortis Deluxe Edition is a first-person soulslike action RPG developed by One More Level and set in an alternate version of 19th-century Europe.

You play as William, a soldier of the Grande Armée who awakens after being buried on the battlefield. The continent he returns to, however, is no longer the one he fought for: a mysterious plague has spread across Europe, transforming humans, soldiers, and creatures into twisted beings while progressively corrupting cities, fortifications, and landscapes.

William himself has been affected by the same force responsible for the catastrophe. This corruption is dangerous, but it also grants him supernatural abilities that can be used against the creatures encountered throughout the journey.

The campaign revolves around uncovering the truth behind the protagonist’s resurrection, the origin of the plague, and the conspiracy hidden beneath the devastation of the continent, combining alternate history, dark fantasy, and horror.

Valor Mortis brings the core characteristics of the soulslike genre into a fully first-person perspective.

Every battle requires careful observation of enemy movements and the ability to recognize the right moment to attack, parry, or avoid a strike.

The parry is one of the central tools of combat. A well-timed block can interrupt an enemy attack and create an opening for a counter, while dashing allows you to quickly reposition yourself when space becomes limited.

When an enemy reaches a critical state, you can perform brutal finishers to end the fight.

The close perspective makes combat especially intense: creatures and bosses can fill much of your field of view, forcing you to directly read animations and visual cues before each attack.

As in traditional soulslikes, death also becomes part of the learning process. Every new attempt helps you better understand patterns, distances, and offensive windows.

Combine weapons, supernatural powers, and Ambers

William can use an arsenal that combines equipment inspired by the Napoleonic era with abilities derived from the supernatural force that brought him back to life.

You can alternate between melee attacks, offensive tools, and special powers to respond to different types of enemies. Some abilities strengthen attacks, while others change how you control space or allow you to hit harder-to-reach targets.

Progression lets you gradually improve available abilities and build a combat style tailored to your preferences.

An additional layer of customization is provided by Ambers, equippable upgrades that grant passive bonuses. As your character grows, you can unlock new slots and change your Amber setup according to the situation.

This system allows you to prepare different configurations for exploration, standard combat, elite enemies, or particularly demanding bosses.

The combination of weapons, mobility, powers, and passive bonuses therefore lets you adapt William without locking him into a single strategy.

The world of Valor Mortis reimagines the Napoleonic Wars through a dark fantasy and horror perspective.

The journey takes you through devastated battlefields, fortifications, settlements, and territories contaminated by the plague. The remnants of war blend with creatures and supernatural phenomena, turning historical environments into far more disturbing locations.

Level design alternates direct routes with areas that encourage exploration.

You can temporarily leave the main path to search for resources, chests, Ambers, upgrades, and additional information about the story.

William’s mobility makes exploration more dynamic than in many traditional soulslikes. Dashes and other movement abilities can be used both in combat and to reach alternative paths or overcome specific obstacles.

Careful exploration can therefore provide real advantages before the most difficult sections of the campaign.

Face the Eternal Guard and bosses deformed by corruption

Among the main threats in the game is the Eternal Guard, a force tied to the legacy of Napoleonic armies and deeply transformed by the plague.

Corrupted soldiers, mutated creatures, and supernatural aberrations populate the continent and feature different attacks and behaviors.

Some enemies reward precise parrying, while others require mobility, distance control, or an effective combination of weapons and powers.

Elite enemies gradually introduce more complex patterns and prepare you for boss battles.

Major encounters can feature multiple phases, wide-area attacks, and moments where you must quickly make use of every tool available.

Intense violence, blood, and gore remain present throughout the experience and reinforce the horror identity of this alternate Napoleonic Europe.
