The Survival Mode is a narrative-free survival sandbox perfected over nearly three years of Early Access. Your sole objective is to survive, with death as the only end. Every game is a new adventure to be written.

No Safety Net

The game will provide you with all the necessary information, but there will be no predefined answers. You'll have to interpret each situation to survive.

Permanent Death

If you die in Survival Mode, your save is automatically deleted. Every decision is crucial. [Note: WINTERMUTE does not feature permanent death.]

Condition and Calories

Four Difficulty Modes

With four different experience modes, you'll surely find the challenge level you prefer, from the calm and meditative pace of Pilgrim, to the hellish Intruder, where even the most experienced players rarely survive more than a week. If none of these modes satisfy you, use custom settings to create your ideal survival experience.

Engaging Challenges

Challenge modes offer goal-oriented experiences lasting 1-3 hours. For example, in Blizzard, you'll need to gather enough supplies to survive a terrible snowstorm, while in Prey, you'll need to escape the fury of a killer bear. Complete these challenges to unlock achievements that will provide benefits in Survival Mode. At launch, five challenges will be available, with more planned in future updates.
