Buy Tails of Iron for Xbox and reclaim the Rat Kingdom
Buy Tails of Iron and lead Prince Redgi against the Frog Clan
Buy Tails of Iron Xbox Live Key Europe and experience a hand-drawn RPG adventure featuring soulslike combat, demanding bosses and a medieval kingdom to rebuild. Wield swords, spears and axes, rescue Redgi’s brothers and defeat the cruel Greenwart.
Prince Redgi fights to reclaim the Rat Throne
The story takes place in a medieval kingdom populated by anthropomorphic animals and devastated by a sudden, brutal war. Redgi, the young heir to the Rat Throne, watches his home fall during an invasion by the Frog Clan, a ruthless army led by the fierce Greenwart. The prince must overcome his doubts, take up arms and begin a journey to rescue his brothers, protect the survivors and rebuild everything that has been lost.
The narrative follows the structure of a dark fairy tale, where apparently delicate environments conceal violence, suffering and deadly creatures. Redgi is not an invincible warrior. At the beginning, he must learn how to recognise enemy attacks, improve his equipment and gain the support of the kingdom’s inhabitants.
Every area reveals new details about the war and the consequences of the occupation. Main missions and side quests take the protagonist through destroyed villages, mines, forests and territories controlled by hostile forces. The journey becomes a story of growth, revenge and responsibility, where the future of an entire population depends on a small hero determined to reclaim his crown.
Brutal soulslike combat based on precision and timing
The combat system requires attention, patience and the ability to interpret enemy movements. Attacking without observing can lead to a quick defeat because even common opponents can inflict serious damage. Players must learn how to dodge, parry and use the correct moment to counterattack.
Enemies reveal their actions through different visual signals. Recognising these indicators helps determine when to dodge, block or move away from an attack that cannot be parried. This structure makes combat understandable without making it easy. The difficulty comes from the need to react accurately and avoid wasting available resources.
Redgi can use lethal executions, close-range strikes and ranged attacks with a bow. Positioning is essential, especially when several creatures attack at the same time. Being trapped between two enemies can be fatal, while controlling the available space makes it easier to face them individually.
Combat rewards preparation as much as reflexes. Selecting the correct weapon, maintaining a suitable armour weight and learning enemy weaknesses can turn an apparently impossible encounter into a satisfying victory.
Weapons and armour change speed, defence and attack style
Equipment allows players to customise the way the prince approaches every battle. Swords, spears and axes have different characteristics. Axes prioritise power, spears offer fast attacks and greater reach, while swords provide a balanced option suitable for many situations.
Armour also has a direct effect on gameplay. Heavy protection allows Redgi to resist more damage but increases the carried weight and slows down dodging. Lighter equipment improves speed and agility but exposes the prince to greater damage when an attack connects. Players must therefore find the right balance between mobility and resistance.
New weapons and armour can be discovered during exploration, obtained by completing missions or forged through special blueprints. Checking hidden paths and optional areas can reveal stronger equipment that becomes useful against the generals of the Frog Clan.
Loadouts can be changed depending on the enemy. A fast boss may require lighter equipment, while a battle based on a few powerful attacks may favour stronger armour.
This freedom makes progression immediately noticeable. Redgi does not simply become stronger but gains new tools for creating a personal combat strategy.
Six biomes hide quests, blueprints and secret paths
The Rat Kingdom is divided into six distinct biomes, each featuring specific environments, creatures and dangers. The journey leads through forests, villages, fortresses, mines and other territories damaged by the invasion, alternating relatively safe locations with areas controlled by Greenwart’s forces.
Exploration is not limited to reaching the next mission. Hidden routes and optional paths may contain weapon blueprints, ingredients, gold or special equipment. Carefully observing the environment is therefore as important as mastering combat.
The kingdom has an interconnected structure, with locations gaining new functions as the story progresses. Returning to the fortress allows Redgi to speak with his brothers, prepare equipment and receive information about available missions. Some quests lead back to previously visited areas, introducing stronger enemies or different objectives.
Side quests and faction hunts provide additional rewards. These activities are useful when a boss appears too powerful because they allow the player to collect money, find equipment and improve Redgi’s preparation.
The variety of environments also supports the visual storytelling. Every location shows the consequences of the war and explains how the invasion has changed the lives of the kingdom’s inhabitants without relying on lengthy dialogue.
Redgi’s brothers help rebuild the kingdom
The protagonist does not fight entirely alone. During the campaign, he meets characters who provide support, opportunities and important services. Some companions can join him during selected missions, making encounters against larger enemy groups more manageable.
The fortress is also home to Redgi’s brothers Rem-Rem, Bam-Bam and Dug. Rem uses ingredients found throughout the world to prepare meals that increase Redgi’s health. Searching for new ingredients therefore improves the protagonist’s resistance and prepares him for harder battles.
Bam-Bam manages the forge. By delivering blueprints discovered during exploration, Redgi can obtain new weapons and armour. This system connects secret hunting directly to character progression because an optional path may contain the blueprint needed to create decisive equipment.
Dug informs the prince about new missions available across the kingdom. Returning to the base allows players to review objectives, prepare the inventory and plan the next destination.
Secondary characters also strengthen the medieval fairy-tale atmosphere. Their activities show how the kingdom attempts to return to normal while Redgi continues fighting. Rebuilding the community becomes as important as defeating the Frog Clan.
Giant bosses test every skill learned during the journey
The generals of the Frog Clan provide the most demanding challenges in the adventure. Every boss has different dimensions, weapons and attack patterns, requiring players to study enemy behaviour before attempting to strike.
Some opponents control large parts of the arena, while others use rapid movements or attacks that are difficult to predict. Armour alone is not enough. Players must recognise visual signals, manage distance and attack only when a safe opening appears.
Boss battles also require suitable equipment. A slow and powerful weapon may work well against a predictable enemy but become difficult to use against an agile opponent. Heavy armour may protect against dangerous attacks while reducing the speed needed to avoid them.
Defeat becomes part of the learning process. Every attempt provides more information about the phases of the battle and helps correct previous mistakes. Defeating a boss therefore creates a sense of progression connected not only to equipment but also to the knowledge gained by the player.
In addition to the main amphibian commanders, the kingdom is populated by undead frogs, giant larvae and other creatures capable of making the route towards the next boss equally dangerous.
Bloody Whiskers and Bright Fir Forest expand the ending
The base game also includes the Bloody Whiskers and Bright Fir Forest expansions, adding missions, enemies and equipment that become available after the main events. These contents extend the adventure and provide new challenges for players who want to continue developing Redgi.
Bloody Whiskers introduces an endgame storyline connected to an ancient combat tournament. The prince must face new opponents and prove his worth in battles designed to test the skills learned during the campaign. The expansion also adds bosses, weapons, armour and two additional difficulty levels.
Bright Fir Forest takes place during the Festival of Leaf Fall and sends Redgi on another adventure involving an enemy seeking revenge. The content includes side quests, additional Mole Arena challengers, new items, music tracks and cosmetic customisation options for the fortress.
Both expansions are integrated into the overall experience and enrich the endgame. After reclaiming the kingdom, players can face further threats, complete new activities and search for special equipment.
This version includes the base title and both expansions but does not automatically include Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter.
A hand-drawn style tells a dark fairy tale
The art direction uses hand-drawn illustrations animated to create a world resembling a medieval storybook. Characters have expressive and instantly recognisable designs, while the environments combine delicate colours with images of war, ruins and disturbing creatures.
The contrast between the fairy-tale presentation and violent combat is one of the most distinctive elements of the experience. The Rat Kingdom may appear welcoming and charming, but every path hides enemies ready to attack. Executions, injuries and battles against enormous bosses make the journey much darker than the artwork initially suggests.
The story is accompanied by the deep voice of Doug Cockle, an actor known for his work in RPGs. The narration describes events and characters without constantly interrupting player control, reinforcing the feeling of listening to an illustrated tale.
Music also contributes to the atmosphere of the kingdom, adapting to exploration and more intense battles. The expansions introduce additional tracks and broaden the audio experience.
The combination of artwork, narration and animation gives the adventure a strong visual identity that separates it from other action games inspired by the soulslike formula.
