Turn-Based Campaign

There are two turn-based game modes allowing players to manage the military and economic aspects of their empire: the Imperial Campaign and the Short Campaign. The former involves conquering 50 provinces and the city of Rome, while the latter requires conquering fifteen territories and eliminating a population, such as the Gauls for the Julia family. If the player chooses a non-Roman faction, they will have different victory conditions, such as annexing a minimum number of provinces or surviving another faction. Unlike previous chapters in the series, the strategic map is no longer two-dimensional but three-dimensional, with dynamic events such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Characters are represented in 3D, and landscapes vary from region to region, including famous locations and important monuments. Each game turn covers a period of six months, alternating between summer and winter seasons that influence players' actions.

Empire Management

At the beginning of the game, the player possesses a basic financial treasury, a set number of provinces or territories, and some basic units. It is important to prosper each province through the construction of buildings, such as temples to maintain public order, barracks to train troops, and roads to improve trade. Managing the budget of each province and security are equally crucial, with the ability to build buildings, recruit units, and adjust taxes for each city. The advice of Centurion Marcus and Tullia (Victoria in English) assists respectively in combat and in the management of settlements, recruitment, construction, and diplomacy.

Real-Time Battles

During real-time battles, the player can command their armies, up to a maximum of twenty units simultaneously. Reinforcements arrive on the battlefield only if a unit is completely destroyed unless commanded by a family member, who can bring up to twenty additional troops controlled by artificial intelligence.

Special Characters and Agents

Each faction has special characters, including family members, who possess attributes such as Command, Influence, and Administration. These characters can die violently or naturally, with the option to choose an heir who will receive substantial bonuses. Some buildings allow recruiting agents, such as diplomats, spies, and assassins, who can influence diplomacy, provide information about enemies, and sabotage enemy structures.
