About the Product
Buy Nightmare Frontier Steam ROW on Keycense and face a tactical extraction looter where fear takes physical form
Lead a team of Scavengers through a city consumed by nightmares
Nightmare Frontier is a turn-based tactical RPG developed by Ice Code Games and published by Slitherine Ltd., released in version 1.0 on July 22, 2026.
The adventure takes place in a West Coast American city within an alternate early-20th-century reality.
A promise of a new gold rush and hidden riches among the ruins attracts groups of Scavengers willing to risk everything.
Behind that promise stands Doc, an ambiguous figure who wants to exploit the Nightmare to power a future built on unusual technology and ideas.
Face 16 fears transformed into monsters
Every Scavenger recovered during expeditions carries one of the 16 Fears featured in the game.
These fears do not remain purely psychological: they attract specific Dreadweavers, physical creatures generated by the fears of your squad members.
Choosing who to bring on a mission therefore directly affects which monsters, dangers and resources you may encounter.
Enemies include grotesque and surreal creatures such as armed spiders and disturbing puppets equipped with scissors.
Building the right team becomes a strategic decision before combat even begins.
Fight in turn-based battles without random hit chances
Combat in Nightmare Frontier uses a fully deterministic tactical system.
There are no dice rolls or percentage-based hit chances to determine whether an attack lands.
Every action depends on unit positioning, available tools and how effectively you exploit the environment.
You can ricochet bullets off objects, push enemies into dangerous obstacles, move them into an ally’s line of fire and chain eliminations within the same turn.
Each encounter therefore works like a tactical puzzle where the battlefield itself becomes another weapon.
Push deeper into the city for better loot
Nightmare Frontier combines turn-based strategy with the high-risk structure of extraction games.
City districts are procedurally generated and can contain combat encounters, useful structures, anomalies, missions and opportunities to obtain equipment.
The deeper you go, the higher the Nightmare Level becomes.
Difficulty increases, but so does the value of the rewards you can find.
Backpack space is limited, and losing a squad during an expedition means losing the loot they were carrying.
You must constantly decide whether to risk another fight or return safely with what you have already collected.
Build and upgrade your Hideout
Between expeditions, you can return to the Hideout, one of the few places in the city protected from the Nightmare.
Here you can manage your squad, organize equipment and prepare for the next raid.
Weapons, items, Nightmare Essence and parts recovered from monsters can be used to create new builds.
The game features four Unlock Trees connected to Compounds, allowing you to expand the possibilities offered by your headquarters.
Preparing the right equipment and characters for the enemies you expect to face can make the difference between a profitable expedition and losing the entire squad.
Customize more than 80 items and four classes
Version 1.0 includes more than 80 upgradeable items that can be combined to change how your Scavengers fight.
Four playable classes are available, each designed to fill a different role during combat.
You can develop equipment, change your squad’s combat style and use parts collected from Dreadweavers to create increasingly unusual tools.
Customization is not limited to statistics: squad composition, equipment and the Fears tied to each character directly determine the conditions you encounter during missions.
Discover four districts and an endless procedural nightmare
Nightmare Frontier features four main districts, eight different tactical objectives and more than 30 interactive elements and environmental hazards.
Procedural generation allows expeditions to offer different layouts, encounters and opportunities from one run to another.
Version 1.0 also introduced a heavily reworked story with greater focus on lore and world-building.
The game is fully single-player and supports Steam Achievements, Steam Trading Cards, Steam Cloud, Family Sharing and Xbox controller support.
Interface and subtitles are also available in Italian.
