A naval simulation designed for demanding commanders

Modern Naval Warfare places players inside the pressurised hull of a Virginia-class nuclear submarine, recreating the systems, sensors and procedures of modern underwater warfare. The objective is not to control the vessel through a few simplified commands, but to understand its operational stations and make decisions based on incomplete information.

Every mission requires careful evaluation of depth, speed, generated noise, environmental conditions and the position of surrounding units. Travelling quickly may help reach an area sooner, but it also increases the chance of detection. Moving slowly reduces the acoustic signature while leaving less time to react to an approaching convoy or threat.

The simulator uses a three-dimensional world created with real geographical data, dynamic maritime traffic and dedicated signal-propagation models. Military vessels, civilian ships and weapon systems operate within the same environment, requiring commanders to distinguish hostile targets from neutral contacts.

The title has been available in Early Access since May 26, 2026. Its main structure is already playable, while the interface, performance, tutorials, artificial intelligence and additional features continue to be developed with community feedback.

Explore every station of a Virginia-class submarine

The submarine’s combat information centre is recreated through interactive three-dimensional environments. The stations reproduce the main functions of Virginia-class Blocks I-IV vessels and allow players to handle different responsibilities during each operation.

From the pilot station, you can control course, speed, depth, trim and submarine masts. Even a small adjustment may affect the acoustic signature and the ability to maintain contact with a target. Travelling close to the surface creates different opportunities from remaining in deep water, but it also exposes the vessel to additional sensors.

The sonar station allows operators to monitor broadband and narrowband signals, detect active emissions and use tactical decision-support tools. Fire control is dedicated to calculating firing solutions and performing Target Motion Analysis to estimate the direction, distance and speed of detected units.

ESM and radar stations can intercept electromagnetic emissions and monitor AIS signals produced by civilian traffic. Moving between these positions gradually builds a more complete picture of the operational environment.

The depth of these systems makes the experience especially suitable for players who enjoy complex simulations and are prepared to study procedures, documentation and instruments before becoming fully effective in combat.

Sonar turns every sound into tactical intelligence

Below the surface, direct vision is rarely available. Sound becomes the primary method for locating ships, submarines, propellers, engines and other sources in the area. The three-dimensional acoustic model calculates propagation, transient noises, flow noise and individual component characteristics in real time.

Narrowband, LOFAR and DEMON applications allow players to analyse received frequencies and search for useful elements when classifying a contact. A trace may belong to a merchant vessel, a warship or an enemy submarine, but identifying it correctly requires observation and comparison between different sources of information.

The speed of your own submarine directly influences listening quality. Increasing speed generates noise that may conceal weaker signals, while quieter navigation improves analysis at the cost of mobility. Depth, water conditions and source position also affect acoustic propagation.

Active sonar can provide faster information, but it also reveals the submarine’s presence to units capable of detecting the transmission. Commanders must decide when to remain silent and when the tactical situation justifies the risk of exposure.

Detection therefore becomes an investigative process. Finding a contact does not automatically reveal its identity or intentions. Every conclusion must be built through analysis, experience and an understanding of the surrounding situation.

Torpedoes, missiles and mines require accurate planning

The arsenal includes torpedoes, mines and multistage missiles, each with different capabilities and limitations. Before firing, the commander must obtain a reliable solution, estimate the target’s distance and consider possible enemy countermeasures.

Target Motion Analysis helps estimate the movement of detected units. Interactive tools and planning systems support the use of Harpoon and TLAM missiles against naval and land targets. Navigation technologies include INS, GPS/GNSS, Tercom and DSMAC systems for precision attacks.

Launching a weapon may compromise the submarine’s position. An opponent can detect the launch noise, follow the weapon or respond with torpedoes and active sensors. After an attack, it may be necessary to change depth, reduce the acoustic signature and deploy countermeasures.

Noisemakers and false sonar targets help confuse underwater threats, while chaff and flares are available against certain guided systems. Correct timing is essential because a countermeasure used too early may no longer be available during a more dangerous stage.

Damage and explosions are handled through dedicated physical models. Volumetric flooding and material reactions to pressure can quickly transform a controlled situation into a serious emergency.

Ocean, weather and civilian traffic create a dynamic battlefield

The operational theatre is not an empty space built only around enemy units. The world includes dynamic civilian traffic, modern military platforms and weather conditions capable of affecting perception and mission development.

GIS data contributes to the geography of each scenario, while physically based rendering manages lighting, the ocean surface and reflections. Volumetric clouds, changing weather and a multilayer wave system make the environment more believable and influence the operational context.

Civilian traffic supported by GIS-AIS data introduces ships that cannot automatically be treated as targets. Commanders must interpret the identity, course and behaviour of every contact before making a decision. Mistaking a neutral vessel for a threat can compromise the entire operation.

Hydrodynamic and hydrostatic models also influence the behaviour of objects. Weapon movement, pressure, explosions and flooding are calculated to support the realistic objectives of the simulation.

Electronic warfare considers frequency, line of sight and antenna configuration. Radar, sonar and electro-optical or infrared sensors are therefore not infallible tools, but sources of information affected by environmental conditions and technical limitations.

This combination creates a battlefield where commanders must manage the environment, sensors, neutral traffic and hostile threats at the same time.

A technothriller campaign in the South China Sea

The campaign includes 18 missions set in the South China Sea, a region where political interests, commercial routes and military operations create a tense strategic environment. Players operate alone or as part of a strike group and receive objectives requiring different tactical approaches.

Missions include anti-submarine warfare, convoy hunting, special forces insertion, intelligence operations and attacks against land targets. Each assignment requires the submarine’s stations to be used according to the situation rather than relying on the same solution every time.

During anti-submarine operations, silence and acoustic analysis may be more important than speed. Intercepting a convoy instead requires predicting its route and choosing a favourable position. Covert missions may force commanders to avoid combat even when they have the capability to attack.

Three training missions introduce some of the fundamental procedures. The simulator remains complex, and its tutorial system continues to be expanded during Early Access.

A quick scenario editor is also available, allowing players to create custom challenges by changing units and operational conditions. This feature extends replay value and makes it possible to test situations outside the main campaign.

Early Access development towards the complete version

The current product is in Early Access and should not be considered identical to the final edition. The developers currently indicate 2027 as the expected period for the full release, without guaranteeing a precise date.

All major Virginia-class submarine stations are already modelled and functional. The campaign can be played, while the world includes ocean physics and maritime traffic. Balancing, optimisation, documentation and accessibility continue to receive changes.

Multiplayer is not currently available, although it is planned during development. Some tutorial sections are incomplete, and enemy artificial intelligence does not yet include every planned combat behaviour. Computer-controlled units already use defensive countermeasures and evasive manoeuvres, with additional systems expected through updates.

The development phase is intended to improve performance, onboarding, stability and the interface without reducing simulation depth. The roadmap also includes expanded documentation, localisation and multiplayer functionality.

The interface and subtitles support English, French, German, Simplified Chinese, Polish and Russian. Full voice acting is available in English. Italian is not currently supported, so understanding one of the available languages is important for learning the systems and procedures.
