Adventure in the Post-Nuclear World
Eighty years have passed since your ancestors roamed desolate lands. As you search for the Garden of Eden Creation Kit to save your primitive village, your path is littered with paralyzing radiation, megalomaniac mutants, and a constant stream of deceit, lies, and betrayal. You wonder if anyone can truly benefit from this brave new world.
Mastery and Survival in the World of Fallout
By mastering your character's survival skills and attributes, Fallout® 2 will challenge you to endure in a post-nuclear world whose future fades with every passing moment.
Character Attributes
Fallout 2 features a character creation system known as SPECIAL, an acronym for Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck. These seven basic attributes influence the skills and extra abilities of each character in the game.
Expansion of Skills
There are 18 different skills in the game, each with a value ranging from 0% to 300%. Initial values at the first level are determined by the player's seven basic attributes. Each time the player levels up, they receive skill points to improve their skills, with a total of five points plus double the Intelligence. The player can select three "Specializations" from the 18 available, which improve at twice the normal rate.
Various Skill Types
- Combat Skills: These include Small Guns, Big Guns, Energy Weapons, Unarmed, Melee Weapons, and Throwing. Each skill enhances accuracy and damage with corresponding weapons.
- Active Skills: These include First Aid, Doctor, Sneak, Lockpick, Steal, Traps, Science, and Repair. They can be used to perform various actions in the game and also contribute to dialogue.
- Passive Skills: Such as Speech, Barter, Gambling, and Outdoorsman, contribute to dialogue and other activities in the game, although they cannot be manually used.
Skill Improvements
As skills increase in level, they become more expensive to upgrade.
Use of Books and Tools
Books found in the game world can improve some skills up to 91%, after which they will have no further effect. Tools like lockpicks can simplify certain actions, while stimulants can temporarily boost a player's skills, but with potential negative effects such as addiction.
Fallout 2 offers a gripping and challenging experience in a world devastated by nuclear war, where survival depends on your skills and choices.
