An action RPG set in Japan in the year 4026
Beast of Reincarnation is a single-player action RPG developed by GAME FREAK and set in Japan in the year 4026. Civilization has been overwhelmed by corruption, a mysterious force capable of altering the land, transforming living beings, and covering the ruins of the past with uncontrolled vegetation.
The protagonist is Emma, a young outcast who bears the signs of the same corruption feared by the survivors. Her condition grants her extraordinary abilities, but also makes her suspicious in the eyes of human communities. In a world where everything affected by corruption is considered dangerous, Emma is forced to live on the margins of society.
During her journey, she meets Koo, a dog affected by corruption who becomes her inseparable companion. United by a shared destiny, the two cross forests, abandoned settlements, and territories populated by monstrous creatures. Their mission leads them toward the Beast of Reincarnation, an entity connected to the origin of the threat hanging over what remains of humanity.
The story combines adventure, mystery, and emotional themes involving loneliness, memory, and trust. Every area visited reveals new details about the fall of civilization and the relationship between humanity and corruption.
The Deluxe Edition includes additional digital content
The Deluxe Edition includes the complete game and a selection of bonuses designed to customize Emma and Koo, while also providing useful resources during the early stages of the adventure. The additional content does not alter the main story, but expands the available cosmetic options and provides starting tools for developing the pair more quickly.
Koo can use two alternative appearances inspired by black and brown Shiba dogs. These skins change the companion’s color and appearance without altering his abilities, statistics, or behavior during combat.
Emma receives the Oni Hat, a cosmetic item that adds a new customization option for the protagonist. The package also includes Ursa Major, a special sword that can be used during the adventure and offers an alternative to weapons obtained through normal progression.
The bundle also provides 100,000 Amber, the currency used within the game, and several vegetable seedlings. These resources can support early progression, equipment management, and other systems connected to survival.
The Deluxe Edition bonuses include:
- Complete game
- Black Shiba skin for Koo
- Brown Shiba skin for Koo
- Oni Hat for Emma
- Ursa Major sword for Emma
- 100,000 Amber
- Several vegetable seedlings
Emma and Koo combine real-time action and strategy
The combat system combines direct action with tactical commands. Players control Emma, using her sword to perform attacks, combos, dodges, and parries. Koo fights independently by her side, but his most important abilities can be activated through specific instructions.
The dog’s actions are not simply automatic support. Players must decide when to issue a command, which technique to use, and how to combine it with the protagonist’s attacks. When selecting tactical abilities, the pace of combat allows the situation to be evaluated more carefully.
Emma can use rapid combinations to damage enemies and interrupt their attacks. A well-timed dodge allows her to avoid a hit and reposition, while a precise parry can create an offensive opening.
Koo can hinder enemies, support the protagonist, or activate techniques capable of changing the pace of battle. His abilities become especially important against large groups, armored creatures, and oversized bosses.
The system therefore requires reflexes, observation, and planning. Although players directly control only Emma, every encounter must be approached by coordinating the abilities of both protagonists.
Customize abilities, weapons, and combat style
RPG progression allows Emma and Koo to be developed through different strategies. Skill trees, equipment, and spiritual stones make it possible to modify the pair’s performance and create builds suited to the threats they encounter.
An aggressive style may focus on power, close-range combos, and techniques capable of interrupting opponents. Players who prefer greater caution can concentrate on mobility, defense, and resource management.
Options related to ranged attacks and stealth are also available. In some situations, it is possible to observe enemies, choose an alternative route, or weaken a creature before confronting it directly.
Equipment affects damage, resistance, and other aspects of the protagonist. Changing weapons or spiritual stones makes it possible to correct weaknesses in a build and prepare for more demanding battles. The Ursa Major sword included in the Deluxe Edition provides an additional option from the early stages of the journey.
Koo also develops alongside Emma. Strengthening their bond unlocks new techniques and tactical combinations. Some abilities focus on damage, while others make it possible to control the battlefield or support the protagonist.
The freedom of customization encourages experimentation. A build that works well against large groups may be less effective during a boss duel, making it useful to change abilities and equipment.
Malefacts and Golems dominate the ruins of the future
The world is populated by creatures deformed by corruption. Malefacts combine natural and monstrous elements, showing how vegetation has invaded and transformed organisms, animals, and environments.
Each opponent may have different dimensions, speed, and behavior. Some creatures attack quickly and force Emma to react with precision, while others use natural protection or techniques capable of controlling large sections of the battlefield.
Golems instead represent a threat connected to the technological remains of the previous civilization. These mechanical constructions continue moving among the ruins and can use offensive systems that differ from those of corrupted life forms.
The variety of enemies prevents players from relying on the same strategy at all times. A technique that is effective against a fast Malefact may not work against an armored Golem. Likewise, an ability designed for a single target may be less useful when Emma is surrounded.
Exploring and collecting resources helps with preparation. Finding new equipment, purchasing upgrades with Amber, or developing an ability before entering a dangerous area can significantly change the outcome of a battle.
Colossal bosses transform the battlefield
The most important encounters involve enormous creatures designed to test every ability developed during the adventure. These bosses do not simply possess greater resistance, but can directly alter the surrounding environment.
Their attacks generate obstacles, change the structure of the arena, and force Emma to keep moving. Repeating the same offensive sequence can quickly lead to defeat, especially when the enemy changes behavior during different stages of the battle.
To win, players must study the creature’s movements and identify the moments when it becomes vulnerable. Some attacks must be avoided, while others can be parried or exploited to create an opening.
Koo plays a fundamental role. His techniques can distract the enemy, restrict its movement, or support Emma during the most dangerous moments. Correctly coordinating the two protagonists increases their chances of survival.
The main battles also contribute to narrative progression. Every victory brings the pair closer to the Beast of Reincarnation and allows them to obtain new information, powers, or resources.
When an encounter proves too difficult, players can reorganize their build, use the available Amber, change weapons, or select spiritual stones better suited to the threat.
Forests and ruins tell the story of civilization’s fall
The art direction combines uncontrolled nature, destroyed architecture, and forgotten technology. The Japan of the future is not represented only as a desolate land: lush forests have reclaimed cities, roads, and industrial structures.
Emma and Koo cross open areas, plant-covered paths, abandoned settlements, and ruins where traces of civilization are still visible. The contrast between beauty and destruction makes every environment an integral part of the narrative.
Exploration allows players to gather resources, discover equipment, and find information about the past. Leaving the main route may lead to valuable materials, hidden areas, or details that help explain the origin of corruption.
Emma’s abilities are also used to cross the environment. Her plant-related powers can make traversal easier and provide access to otherwise unreachable locations.
Combat and exploration therefore share the same narrative elements. Corruption transforms enemies, but also affects the structure of the areas, the available routes, and movement possibilities.
The seedlings included in the Deluxe Edition connect to the resource-management systems and provide additional materials for use during the adventure.
The bond between Emma and Koo drives the entire story
The relationship between the protagonist and the dog is the emotional heart of the experience. Koo is not a decorative companion, but a character directly involved in the story, exploration, and battles.
Emma has lost part of her memories and struggles to express emotions. Her condition separates her from other humans, while her relationship with Koo develops gradually through the difficulties they face during their journey.
The dog becomes a constant and reliable presence in a hostile world. The trust built between them helps the protagonist confront her past and better understand the meaning of corruption.
Characters encountered along the way may provide information, assistance, or new reasons to question the events. Some consider Emma a threat, while others may see her abilities as a possible source of salvation.
The growth of their bond also affects gameplay. New techniques and combinations become available as the pair overcomes battles and difficulties. Emotional progression and mechanical development therefore advance together.
The adventure is designed exclusively for single-player gameplay. Koo is managed through the internal systems and reacts to instructions issued during combat.
Exploration, stealth, and alternative strategies
The adventure does not force players to approach every situation with a frontal attack. In some areas, it is possible to observe enemy behavior, avoid patrols, and use the environment to advance more carefully.
Stealth actions allow resources to be preserved and reduce the risk of taking damage. Avoiding an opponent may, however, mean temporarily giving up materials, rewards, or secondary routes.
Ranged attacks provide another solution. Weakening a creature before close combat or striking a vulnerable point can make a complex battle more manageable.
Koo can also contribute during these phases by helping control enemy positions or creating opportunities to cross an area without being detected.
Players can therefore adapt their style to the situation. Some areas favor aggression, while others reward patience and observation. Changing equipment and abilities makes it possible to prepare before entering unknown territory.
The starting supply of Amber and the Ursa Major sword gives Deluxe Edition owners more opportunities to experiment with progression and equipment.
